@Jennifer Bender as you know attics are freezing in the winter and hot hot in summer, you may need to add some insulation over his room and does your attic have vents? we had this problem and finally had to get a small window ac unit in room good luck xx

You need to add some insulation in the ceiling of the garage. If you decide to put an ac unit get on with heat and air.

A couple of possibilities come to mind: windows may be old and letting in the cold during the winter months. Either replace with newer windows or use thermo drapes to block wind/etc. You may consider putting up a ceiling fan to help keep the air moving in his room-it can help keep the room a little cooler in summer and keep the hot air circulating in winter. Hope this helps.

I have a room like that only its very hot in the summer and cold in winter. we have an older home and zero insulation so with new windows and a few inches of insulation we improved it a bit. still hot in the summer though...

If you can not afford to have the ceiling in the garage and over his room insulated, then I would suggest heavier curtains with the insulation panels would help on the heating and cooling of his room. You can purchase just the liners and add to the curtains that's already there. Heavy window shades or wooden blinds would help. Is his floor carpeted? If not try a large area rug to warm up the floors.
