Update Your Air Return Cover

I am redoing an office space in my home and it had a unsightly plastic vent cover.I wanted to make everything in this space pretty so I decided this plastic cover needed to go.

follow along with me and I will show you have I took two simple materials to make a pretty new one.

materials I used for mine

  • decorative aluminum sheet - brass clover leaf
  • 3.5” Primed MFD door casing
  • 5 min epoxy
  • white paint
  • fast drying glue

I ripped the 3.5” casing in half lengthwise. And then cut mine pieces, two at 18” , long point to long point on a 45 degree angle and to at 9” long to long at a 45 degree angle.

I also ran each piece through my table saw a blades width, half way though each piece to create an inset on the back so the aluminium Sheet would sit flush once mounted on the back.

I then used starbond fast set glue to glue to mitres together and the put a few pin nails in the corners as well.

I then painted the frame white and let it dry.

I used tin snips to cut the Aluminum sheet to size and used 5 min epoxy to secure it to the back of the frame.

once it was dry, installed it with countersunk screws and painted the heads white to match the frame.

I absolutely love how this turned out. This is so much better then the plastic cover and so much more cost efficient compared to some of the decorative covers you can purchase online.

I hope you enjoyed following along with me for this simple DIY.
