You can repair your dishwasher yourself with a little research and a screwdriver. Many of the problems with broken appliances can be solved easily by doing the repairs yourself. It sounds and looks hard, but once you do some research, you find that it isn't such a big deal.
You will need to research the issue. Google is your best friend for diagnosing the problem. This post is a good example of how easy it can be to actually do the work. The dishwasher hasn't worked and I miss having one so we googled the symptoms, which was having power but the push buttons did nothing. First open it up and write down all of the information ( picture 2 ). Once you have that, start googling. We had to order the part (picture 1) and grab a screwdriver.
First step is to turn off the breaker to the appliance! Safety first.
Take out the screws on each side. For this one, we only needed the first two on each side to remove the top panel.
Gently pull the component out. Now don't panic, all of those wires do not have to be detached. We opened the door all the way and lay the face piece on the floor.
Place the new one in the same position by the old one so you can see both and know you have it turned to the right orientation.
Looking over it, find the wires that need to be hooked to the new one. The two circled in red are the only ones that had to be unplugged from the old one and plugged in to the new one. The two on the right had to be plugged in to the new panel. The one on the right will be attached to the only component you must remove and place in the new panel. See, no need to panic.
This is the part you have to remove from the old one and place in to the new control panel. If you find no screws or tabs, try gently moving it to one end. This one comes out by sliding to one side and lifting out.
Attach the new control panel wire to the component ( red arrow ).
Gently place the component in to the new panel. Make sure it has clicked in place and wont move.
Now place the panel in place and line up any holes for your screws.
Lining up holes
Put all of the screws back in.
That's it. Turn your breaker back on and test your appliance.
