Fridge Magnet
How can I safely remove this?
My kids put a football magnet on our stainless steel fridge - when I went to peel it off and polish the stainless steel, this is what I found. I've tried WD40 to try to remove it, but no success. Has anyone ever encountered this and what did you do to remove it without damaging the stainless steel? I really would like to get it cleaned off! Thank you!

Oh gosh, how frustrating! You might reach out to the fridge manufacturer, see what they recommend.
Here's a bunch of methods, something should work for you:

You could also try Goo Gone or Goof Off
Best to you.
Hope this helps

cooking oil and baking soda rubbed in with your fingers and lifted with a toothpick that will not scratch the appliance
Try spraying WD40 on a paper towel and letting it sit for a few minutes. Then wipe with a microfiber cloth. Use a plastic scraper when the area is wet.
Mix ½ tablespoon of baking soda with 1 cup of warm water. Scrub the refrigerator door lightly with a rag and the baking soda mixture to remove any dirt buildup around the area where the magnet was located. Baking soda is a mild abrasive and won't scratch the stainless surface.
Rinse the door with clear water to remove the baking soda residue. Wipe dry.
Dip a clean cloth in vinegar or a stainless steel cleaner so the cloth is thoroughly moistened but not dripping. Rub the gray magnet marks with the vinegar or cleaner until the stains fade completely, moistening the rag in fresh cleaner as necessary. Wipe down the rest of the door with the vinegar or cleaner.
Wipe the vinegar residue from the door with a water-dampened rag. Wipe dry, buffing the door with a circular rubbing motion to bring out the shine.
I would give Goo Gone a try.
Looks to me like the magnets removed the thin veneer of metal, so your only recourse would be to contact manufacturer on their website to order a replacement piece. Or you can buy a can of Rustoleum Stainless Steel paint and repaint the whole door.
I would possibly try Goo Gone? Or make sure some of the stainless steel finish wasn't removed.
I use a Cerama Bryte stainless cleaner. It's very gentle and works great. Worth a try...
I agree with the above contact the manufacturer and see what they say. They would know the best removal situation the less dangerous caustic chemicals or removal option to try.
I would try using a stainless steel cleaner and/or contacting the manufacturer.
Unfortunately, with so many products now being manufactured overseas, often there is no way to 'reach out and contact' anyone 1. who is going to get back to you and 2. anyone who can help you
Hopefully you will receive the answer you need here on Hometalk.
Have you tried holding a blow dryer to the sticky stuff that is still on the fridge, to warm it up and make it more pliable, then possibly rolling it off (pushing it off in one direction) with an eraser?
Hi! Lots of good suggestions. I was going to suggest applying Goo Gone and after about 15 minutes, gently try to lift the edges with a plastic scraper. Another thought was holding a strong magnet to the edges to see if you can lift them. A magnet did this on my old car, and it took all of the above to get it off the hood of the car (and some very choice mumbling under my breath- I wasn't who put it there). Good luck!
here is another idea https://homeguides.sfgate.com/remove-magnet-marks-stainless-refrigerator-32450.html#:~:text=Dip%20a%20clean%20cloth%20in,with%20the%20vinegar%20or%20cleaner.
Hello, if that is residue, goo gone should take it off without any problems.
Vegetable oil or goo gone would be my go to.
