If possible, have the vent extended to the outside. Not knowing your set up, you could place a section of screen, panty hose or trouser sock over the opening. Something tightly woven to allow the air to flow through while catching the lint. Once full, simply replace. Much like using a filter on your HVAC system and The lint screen inside your dryer. Good luck.
Most dryers have maximum recommended distances for proper ventilation/safety issues. See what distance you want to divert the dryer vent to, and any available alternative exits, before proceeding.
We placed a boot scaper door mat under the vent exhaust because it vents into the flower bed and is just icky to see a mat of linty felt. The kind that looks like fake grass?? The plastic "grass" catches and holds the lint and then we just hose it off – it works and is inexpensive. I line dry to damp whenever I can and then only use the dryer to fluff and finish which reduces the lint and also saves my fabrics and my energy bill . They also have special dryer vent boxes for venting indoors. Amazon has "BetterVent Indoor Dryer Vent” for $60. It has filters to capture the lint. This could most likely be used for your application. We chose NOT to use one of these because they can cause your dryer to not expel the heat properly and can cause the elements to burn out. Perhaps an inexpensive version would be to get some mesh material…maybe cheap crinoline from the fabric store, create what would look like a big “bag” and tie it around the exhaust. You would need to clean it every load like the lint filter in the machine to avoid fire.
Would it be possible to vent through the roof?
