Funny, I just did this task between yesterday afternoon and this morning. Also having the propane tanks topped off as well. And stocked up on charcoal and avocado wood. We grill year round here and this week back into the low 100's . . .
This is what we do...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmIQVDvkvZs We only use dish soap and water, no other chemicals and we always check the grills for any of the little wires from the brush that may have come loose. You don't want them in your food.
Clean the grill grates right after cooking and while they are still very warm with a wad of aluminum foil. Then place a tin can of hot water on the grill grate and close the lid for about 30 min, the steam will loosen the splatter on the inner surfaces of the grill, wipe them down with rags that are wet with dawn dishsoap. Rinse with plain water and then dry the insides.

Hello there,
Use a Wire Brush! when it is cold.
Dave
it's so simple. Put regular, household vinegar into a spray bottle. Spray vinegar all over the grill, then take a balled up piece of aluminum foil and use that as a bristle brush to scrape the grime right off.

I use a metal grill brush
Heat up the grill which will loosen the grease and debris and rub it with a wire brush.
I'm doing that this week and I purchased an oven cleaner, it worked with my other grill
