Looking for refrigerator solution

Toni Macomb
by Toni Macomb
I am updating an old single wide and I need a refrigerator solution. I struggle because I only have two possible locations for the refrigerator. One location is hindered by a height limitation, I do not want to remove/lose the cabinets, and new 'fridges are taller than this one from 1959. The other location lends itself to a counter width fridge and I'm willing to pay a higher price for this but for two things....one, I do not want a dispensing refrigerator (no ice, no water) and I need recessed handles. The point in a counter width is to have clearance through a doorway.
Anyone have possible solutions? I even looked at RV refrigerators but the prices, because they usually have more than one type of hookup, make them too expensive.
Any suggestion or solution would be greatly appreciated. I'm exhausted from searching for an answer to my problem. Thank you! Thank you!

  • Have you thought of a propane fridge? Check Lehman's catalogue

If you would give us measurements of the space you will be putting the fridge, we could better help you. There are refrigerators made specifically for manufactured homes, and come in different sizes. Some have ice/water options but the base model doesn't have it.

@Sharon Weinacht Robitille I'm not against propane. Just never thought there would be a size difference. I will certainly look at the catalogue. Thanks for the suggestion.

I went looking at Sears website to see if they still had the fridge we bought from them and they don't even show my previous order. I believe this link will show you the fridge, although I think this is stainless and ours was white (my preference in appliances). At any rate, we bought this fridge for our 40' 1987 5th wheel travel trailer that we lived in 6 months out of the year. Size was so important and so many of the fridges in that size were useless to us. This one was absolutely perfect. http://www.whirlpool.com/-%5BWRT111SFAF%5D-1021176/WRT111SFAF/

I bought a small black GE recess handle top freezer fridge. I also have a tiny kitchen which house the washer as well.

I purchased a commercial reach in cooler used for $300, covered 2 sides with black vinyl and the glass door with a window film (you could opt for a dark tint or a stained glass applique). WAY more room inside, small profile, way easier to clean. For the freezer, I already had a small chest freezer that I moved inside beside the frig. I no longer run out of room in either.
