How to Repair a Drywall Hole

Large holes in your wall can easily be created with just a firm bump. They might be daunting to fix but are definitely a DIY project that you can tackle without any fear!
Tools / Materials:
Utility knife, scrap drywall, drywall joint tap, drywall screws, taping knives (14" and 3" are most useful), electric drill, scrap wood (preferably 1x1), sanding block, quick set joint compound, square measuring tape, pencil
Step 1:

Cut a square hold larger than the existing hole so you can fit in a new piece of drywall. After creating a square over your hole, use a straight edge and utility knife to score the drywall. Then make cuts towards the center so the drywall breaks cleanly.
Step 2:

Cut out a square the same size as your hole from scrap drywall, making sure it’s the same thickness.
Step 3:

Trim the scrapwood as backing for the patch and drill in place using drywall screws. Then, drill scrap drywall into backing to hold drywall in place.
Step 4:

Apply drywall tape around the patch.
Step 5:

Mix joint compound and apply to wall. Use a large knife to smooth out joint compound
Step 6:

Using sanding block to smooth out the patch.

This is so great! Our "professional builder" left a huge hole in our master bedroom wall. Someone on his crew cut the wall plug hole twice as large as it should have been, and they just left it!!!! So, this will help us sort out this problem!!! Thanks!
