  • thank goodness you are alright! There are sprays that can be used (not sure where you live) but look at google (for example www.flamestop.com) for availability.

    3) Watch the type of insulation and other coatings/wallpaper that you use in your home. Many times, they are not heat/fire resistant and can act as an accelarant.
Bear in mind that most fire-retardant or fire-resistant material are intended to slow down the progress of a fire not to stop or extinguish it.

One of the most important things is to check (or have it checked) to see if there is a fire break in the framing in the walls and ceiling between you and the apartment above you.. (and below you if there is an apartment in the basement) You may want to install fire retardant dry wall or insulation...
Building codes for multi resident buildings do require this depending on when the structure was built... It would be worth checking with your local building inspectors to see if the codes were in force when the building was built or retro fitted for apartments or condos.

Get a good quality smoke alarm and make sure that it always has working batteries in it. Ask any fire fighter- they can save lives!

Ms.Little Lady,I thank you for your reply.I think I can find the goods you've mentioned, and I am going to check the kind of materials which are stuck to walls floors ceilings, etc. The fire was a terrifying experience and it spoiled our Xmas celebration since we were taken out of our home and werent able to return until dawn.
