It can help a little. If you have a central HVAC system, close the vents too. Every bit helps!
Yes close doors, vents and curtain or blinds.
You have to close or cover the vents (if you have them) . If they do not close well, use cardboard. You have to cover both the vents the air comes out, as well as the return vents. If you have radiators the room will still heat up.
I keep the vents and doors closed in the spare bedrooms and I think it helps in my house. When I go in one of those rooms when expecting guests, it can be downright cold in there, which means open vents and doors again for my guests.
If you have a high-efficiency furnace [85 to 95 % ] that is sized correctly the fan motor will work harder, not last as long, and use more wattage. However, I am in the 3rd year of doing this.
utilize sun room plants and trees, will create fresh air for home and add warmth to air, and home.....during winter months and a place where you can grow fruit & vegs in winter...... cut room off, oh no, make a room that use can use everyday, a quite spot to have wine, or morning coffee, afternoon tea.....
I was told that the furnace is sized and configured for the size of your house and cutting off a room will made the furnace be less efficient.....Maybe just closing the vents a little in those rooms would not be a problem. I guess it really would depend on how cold your climate is in the winter.
