Dry wall problem

We have a dry wall installed between the two children rooms. The paint on the dry wall below near the skirting is wet, the wet stained the wall and the room smells. I think it's because the house has a huge crack right trough the floor which the builders did not seal before installing the dry wall.
Should we break the wall down first, seal the crack and then let it be reinstalled, and also I would like to know what paint to use if I want a certain colour to paint the dry wall with?
Thanks.

I'm so sorry you are having this problem Yolande. It could also be unhealthy for your children if the wet area gets moldy. Have you contacted the builder to fix it? Most homes come with a warranty for things like that. I know our Home builds always did.

Just wondering when was this construction? personally I would make the contractors fix the issue. You should not have to deal with this problem. In the mean time to keep the moisture level down I would put some damp rid buckets in the area. This will help control and the moisture and the mold.

I have never heard of that product before @Janet, so I looked it up. At's awesome the way it works. It mentioned a child and pet safe lid. What is your experience with that? It's hard to tell by the picture how easy the lid comes off.

Here in New York it is always very damp in the summer so not only do I use it in the basement I use this on my camper.

@Janet, is the lid on secure enough to use around children though? I'm a paranoid fur mom and grammy so I worry about things like that. They didn't say the product was child safe, which concerns me.

    Hello,

Call the builder back! He should have addressed the problem of the floor gap with you before installing the wall.
