Hi David, I think you would be just fine putting drywall over stucco. Mold resistant drywall is really only needed in wet environments such as bathrooms and basements etc.

    • Are you absolutely certain it is stucco? Not typically installed in the interior of homes. Probably textured plaster, which, for the most part a thing of the past, however some still have it installed.

The dry wall over stucco is fine, if you have a mold problem you can kill it with white vinegar and then paint over it with KILZ to block it. Other than that the moisture resistant drywall is for moist areas of the house.

Regular drywall should be fine! If there's no moisture problem now you should be aok.

  • That shouldn't be a problem. If you've got baseboards or crown moulding, you should consider very carefully removing those first, add the drywall, them put the trim back.

Hi David, indoors, you are fine with regular drywall, that's what is in the rest of the house. Mold resistant is only necessary n areas of high moisture like washrooms, so, unless you are going to be showering in that room, not necessary. Hope this helps you out!
