How can I repair my wall?!

Hi! We recently had a lot of shifting in our house due to a plumbing issue. We have multiple cracks on the ceiling and on the walls. This one here is in my kitchen and I'd like to know how I can repair it to be able to paint over it

Thank you so much for your input!

What kind of wall is it ? If sheet rock have the section cut out and replace it, cover screws and joints with sheet rock grout, sand texture ( walls are finished that way) and prime paint and final paint to match. If plaster no help as no experience. Looks like you will need a professional to do this big a repair.

I agree with John Richmond. Looks like plaster with a sand texture skim coat or paint. A lot of scraping, mesh tape over cracks, mudding with drywall compound. sanding, etc. Would be tough to match the sand finish. May need complete skim coat over walls and ceiling.

I think I'd want to have it checked for any structural issues before patching over it.

I agree with Brenda on the Structural Engineer check. That many serious cracks in walls and ceilings needs to be checked for stability first before repairs are made.

Pull the loose pieces off, mud it up with joint compound, sand it and paint it.

    Not hard to do.

I assume the shifting has been fixed.

I would not immediately assume those are cracks. Looks to me that you originally had an orange peel texture on the walls, and another texture had been applied over it and then painted over. If the damage was only water damage you will be able to see if there are really cracks in the wall. If no cracks you can sand the edges, prime and then reapply texture and paint. After a big wind and rainstorm we had we actually had water running down walls in all the outside walls and one it was dried out we only had to reapply texture and repaint. Best of luck!

Before painting, you need to texture. Yours appears to be a light orange peel. You can buy cans of touch up texture
