How do we patch holes in a sheetrock ceiling?
Ok, I LOVE this site!! My husband and I are new to DIY and we get alot of information from here! We have replaced lighting in our kitchen and now have holes in our sheetrock ceiling that need to be patched and have no idea how to do it! So can anyone tell us how to go about doing this so we can finish our kitchen? Thank you so much in advance!!

If they're not huge holes, you should be able to use spackle. Fill-in the holes, let it dry, sand it smooth and paint.
HI its fairly simple. Measure the thickness of your existing sheet rock. Figure out how much sheet rock you would need to fill the holes in sq ft. Most building stores have part sheets pick up what you need. Pick up a container of compound as well, ask at the store.
If you are filling a round hole, cut a circle just under the size of the hole, same for a square patch. Here is the trick, there is nothing to attach the patch to so you cut a piece of wood longer than the hole is wide but narrower . This allows you slip it into the opening. Hold it in place and screw up through the ceiling to hold the wood. Place your patch piece and tape and compound the patch. When dry, sand and feather the edges so it shows less, Prime and paint away.

OK. .I reallllly hate fixing sheetrock. You don't say if these holes are right around the base of the fixture...IF THEY ARE....
My lazy trick is: get one of the ceiling medallions from Lowes and put under the fixture - covering the hole! If a fancy fixture get a plain medallion; if a plain fixture, dress it up with a fancy medallion!
You can spray paint the medallion b4 you put it up, so I would just put some caulk under the edges and VOILA! Lazy, er, BUSY woman's time AND money saver! Pretty too!
