Hi Ginger! Ooo .... you need to be sure and replace any part of the drywall that has received any moisture whatsoever. If not it’ll simply crumble.

So cut away all that has gotten wet.

Then cut your next piece of drywall to match where you’ve cut. Nail In and tape and float pieces together. Prime and paint or paper and you’ve got your wall!

    Good Luck☘️!

It is easier to replace the entire sheet, you need to buy an entire sheet anyway.

However, if you want to do it the hard way:

    A. Turn off the power. Rot does not regard where your wires are at.

    B. Cut out a small area which is rotted with a Reciprocator saw or a hole saw. This will be your peep hole for C.

    C. Check to make sure you will not cut any wires which will need to replace if you do.

    D. If you need to, pull the wire or cut the wire to splice it together in a junction box before you do G.

    E. Take out the rotted area one section at a time, as again, you do not want to accidentally cut wires.

    F. Measure that square or rectangular area, so you know what size to get with a custom cut piece of drywall.

Be sure to get it 1/8 inch shorter than your measure otherwise you may end up scraping the edges down to size.

    G. Secure the junction boxes and spkicings of the electrical, then secure the new drywall into the studs with drywall screws. [Noone wants to tear out a new piece of drywall after you just put it in, because nobody remembered to secure the electrical first].

    H. Spackle around the new piece so it looks: Ah okay, but in need of paint.

    I. Apply paint, per necessity, and let the first coat dry before applying coat 2 [and 3 if necessary.

    J. Restore the power.

    K. Voila, you are done.

To just put in the new piece after you paint it, is so much easier. You yet will likely need to spackle and touch it up, but it is alot easier than A to J.

    I hope this helps!
