Why are there cracks in your basement wall and how big are they. Small cracks can be fixed with joint compound, but I would have someone look at those cracks first.
Use a concrete filler in the cracks and seal the wall with Drylock or a similar product made for concrete.
We had a major issue that had been covered up by the previous owner and did know until we started to remodel basement. I definitely would have a contractor look at it and give you advice before doing anything else. It may be as simple as filling in..my prayers for you is that you CAN handle it with filler!
