No clue how to repair, but think you need to find out why this happened, otherwise it might occur again after the repair.

After cause has been determined and corrected, how can I repair?

I have this problem, too. I'm curious how to repair without the expense of a pro painter.

Had this happen at the juncture of walls when house settled. Drywaller removed it, filled the crack and reapplied the tape. Then I just painted.

@Marion Nesbitt Thank you for your comment. I do believe that it is due to the settling of the house and will call a pro to fix. I climbed up there and found no evidence that it isn't so.

Caution!! Beware of pro who is overly willing to do the job "right now" as the settling may not be complete. My house settled about .25 inch and a reputable pro told me it was too little to be concerned with. I have seen no other signs of settlement since just the original separation at the taped corners and seams. This is only in the garage but will still be costly to get the job done properly unless I can find a less expensive method.
