Paintable wallpaper in bathroom

Hey another question, I just tore out vanity in in my master bath, the sheet rock looks really bad, lots of screw/nail head bumps that were never attached to anything (sheet rock guy did bad job behind the vanity, I guess because a vanity was going there (any way it reflects bad on his work) Also the vanity top had two sides that were glued to wall, when I removed them it also took some of the sheet rock paper with it or left glue behind. Its a mess. Now I'm trying to figure out how to cover it cheaply. I'm not very good at sheet rock work and actually hate doing it. I've weighed several options, pallet boards, corrugated steel/metal/ or paintable textured wall paper. I'm liking the idea of the wall paper because I've done it before. Only concern is now if I use this I will also want to hang it over the shower stall. Will it be to humid for it? I have used it as wainscoting in guest bath, but it seldom used. Ps if I use the wallpaper I will be painting it with stainless steal paint. The rest of the master bath has white wood wainscoting.

I have used the paintable beadboard wallpaper, but not in a humid area. Also, any defect in the wall shows through the paper, and you might have that problem too. Can you do something that would mimic the white wainscot?

@Jhmarie It is all custom built, I think I would have trouble getting the same size wood trims to finish it out...seems like the same size gets smaller and smaller every year. I may end up doing with the galvanized metal, for a bit more rust look...cutting out for plumbing and mounting pedestal sins to it has be a little worried....never worked with it before except on roofs or walls for outdoor buildings.

We used peel and stick vinal tiles bought at Lowes or home depot, they wouldn't stay up with just sticking them to the wall so we used liquid nail, we did two bathrooms and they both look amazing, we did the walls from top down so the part that showed the most along the ceiling would be straight across, so we needed to aupport the tiles as we went and we just used push pins to hold them up until the next row under went on and so forth and so on. The tiles hid all imperfection on the wall, with wall paper the bad places on the wall can show through.
