@B. Enne I totally agree. I feel the same way when I do research for others here, which is why I was so frustrated when I had the problem awhile back. I'd not been on HT for months when I started having problems linking videos when I realized they had added that very nice function.

go to about.com and type in popcorn ceilings. It will give you the step by step.

I hear the spray cans at the link from @B. Enne works very well. Friends have used it. Here's the video they were trying to share.

Since part of it is down, take down the rest of it. Smooth ceilings are soooo much nicer...Spray it with water, let it soak in for a few minutes and scrape, scrape, scrape...

@I thought about that too Jim L,but it's so messy.

If you tape your wet dry vacs extension hose to a 5 inch scrapper it gets sucked up before there is a mess. You can set the vacuum on a card table and move around the room as you need too. We did this at my sisters house. Dry method over wet if you ask me. A small vac can be got for 30 bucks.

I've tried both...I prefer wet, but just lightly misted, not soaking. To each his own..as long as the job gets done LOL...and there is no asbestos.

There is a spray at Lowes called "homax wall texture", all you do is spray it on the area you need to patch. It worked great for me

I agree with removing the rest of the popcorn. It is unsightly.
