Your choice is either to repair the drywall or panel the entire wall with panelling, shiplap siding, etc. If this is an exterior wall please be sure to insulate between the plumbing pipes and the outside portion of the wall so this plumbing repair lasts.

you can put a pierce of plywood over the hole, and use screws in the 4 corners. if you want you can paint it the same color as the wall.

What is the wall made of? It makes a difference. If it is drywall make the hole into a square or rectangle. Cut a piece of drywall to the size of the square or rectangle. On the back of the hole screw a thin board onto the top and bottom of the hole so you can attach the drywall to the boards. After you screw the drywall to the boards, put drywall tape into joints. Put a thin coat of spackle over the joints, feathering it out. After it dries do a light sanding and then put another thin coat over the first. The rest of the process depends upon what your original wall was made of. If you don't know what it is take a sample of the material to your local hardware store. I hope this helps.

You may want to make it so that the piece you put is a good fit, but put it in so that you can take it off incase you need to get into the wall to repair the plumbing again. You can always paint it to match the wall and perhaps put a piece of furniture or a picture over it to disguise it.

Just repair hole with a kit from the store and if it's really large you may need to YouTube how to repair it because the process begins with making the hole larger since you want to be able to screw new piece if dry wall to a stud. It's not difficult if you measure and take your time. A homeowner can do it and really should know how just because it's like owning a car you just need to know a few simple things that cost a lot to have someone do it for you. I love this site for ideas and knowledge but don't love implementing and if possible hire out but I watch and make sure that they are doing it properly. You can do.
