How do I repair old plaster walls in my bedroom?
i now have an empty bedroom that I need to update. I will take off the wallpaper but I know the plastered walls are not in good shape. Can they be fixed or should I just wallpaper again.

Take it off and see how bad it is. Plaster is easy to fix for a homeowner. Just sand very well, use a primer and paint. If the wall has never been painted, may need a special primer.
I would put on a skim coat of sheetrock joint compound to fill holes. Then paint as desired. Bad walls can show through paper, and papering is not a fun job. There are papers out there that are designed to give a texture to the walls and are designed to cover major wall problems - even cinder block joints. These papers are then painted. I did this in a rental house before selling it and in my family room. Other options would be to cover walls with wood. I took used bamboo flooring and covered an accent wall - after getting tired of the textured wallpaper.
I would remove anything that comes away easily then paint in a way that makes it look intentional!
