Love Lanterns? Electrify It!

Living on the lake - some things 'you would think' are a given... Lighthouses, lanterns, beachy themes... you get the picture. I'm doing a total makeover in the theme of my house this year and would love for you to join me on the journey ~and it is a journey in progress. I love the looks of the lanterns you can find now-a-days, so this is actually new to my lake home after living here for getting close to 20 years.
I was looking for a lighted lantern, not for "Light", but for a soft glow in a room that we transition through. I could not find one in "this girls" budget... but I found a plain lantern at one of my favorite stores. It was a large size ~ the space I have, provides for this perfectly. The color was just right for my decor ~ (it was kind of a Goldilocks moment), but it just had no light...(so much for Goldilocks ;) )
I took it home (with a plan) for my husband. He knew the second I walked through the door that I had something up my sleeve. So, off to the home improvement store we went.
I know this is nothing new to many, that are creative - but for those that are just getting started in your DIY journey, my hope is that you could gather inspiration from my post and think outside of the "buy it in a box and plug it in" mode. If you can drill a hole, you can do this! Maybe it is not a lantern you are looking for? Maybe it is the old metal pail that you use to carry water in from your Grandma's pump and you just couldn't toss it for some reason? (yes, I had those Grandma's - but sadly, no pail) Why not make it a soft up-light, surrounded by a beautiful wreath of flowers, or grapevine and a picture of you and your Grandma? How about that birdcage that you were thinking of putting on the garage sale next week? That urn, that just sits there tired of its potpourri? Maybe it is an intricate metal piece like above, that you could attach a piece of reclaimed wood to the bottom and add your light kit and a bit of floral whimsy? You are thinking now, right?
