You can thank the Super Bowl for this tutorial.
My friend Denise told be about her outlet not working.
So I decided to put together a video showing her how to do this step-by-step.
The biggest part to remember is to stay safe.
Shut off the electric at the panel or fuse box.
Then you can remove the old outlet and install a new one.
Check out the pictures below for some tips or watch my video over on Home Repair Tutor.
Hope you like the give away too :D
Cheers,
Jeff
Learn how to wire an electrical outlet
Plug in a receptacle analyzer to see if your outlet is wired correctly
Turn the electric off at the panel and test it's off with a non-contact voltage tester
Score the tabs of the outlet if they've been painted
Unwire the hot wires first
Then unwire the neutral wires and ground wire
Replace your outlet with a similar one, in this case it was a 15 amp outlet
Use the strip gage on the new outlet to trim the insulation from the copper wires
All ground wires should be wired together with the correct size wire nut then attached to the outlet.
Rub all copper wire with emery cloth to ensure the wire will conduct electricity to the outlet
Wire he ground first
Then the neutrals and hot wires.
Barely any bare copper should show from the wires going into the outlet
If your outlet wiggles use spacers (in green) between the outlet and electrical box
