What causes water to drip from the ceiling exhaust fan in our bathroom

We notice it when there is frost on the roof

    Sounds like the flashing next to that vent must need resealing.

    You are getting condensation from the fan when the humidity inside the pipe creates a frost and then melts. If you can, insulating the pipe should help.

    It could be either of the above. When mine was doing the same thing it was flashing on the roof not sealed properly. 16 years later My central AC/heating vents appeared to be leaking. Turned out another vent was leaking from a different flashing seal, and water was running down a beam in the attic and coming down the side of the vent.

    Could be condensation from the super cold air outside... or the flashing around your vent pipe has gone deteriorated and needs to be replaced or re-sealed.... the roof in that area could be compromised too.
