We have an old bureau in good shape except one of the drawers is missing the front, we can't find it either. We tried donating it, but with this missing piece, no one wanted it. And it's too nice to throw out. We are seniors with little carpentry skills. Any suggestions?

Would you be comfortable saying what town you live in? There could easily be Hometalkers near you willing to take it off your hands. What kind of DIY projects are you doing these days? ☺️

We live in Fort Collins, Colorado. We're not very handy for extensive diy projects, we're seniors. Suppose we could glue some plywood on the front of the drawer and paint it. Dunno!

Look for a woodworker by talking to friends or call Habitat for Humanity. They may take it as-is and/or will have will have woodworking volunteers that might want to take on a project. People go the HFH Restores for old furniture that can by repurposed. The Home Talker site also have videos of what they have done to repurpose old furniture.

Paint or stain the inside of the drawer and use for magazines or, as suggested above, baskets. Pretty towels would work too. Glue/screw a simple knob towards the front of the drawer so you can pull it out.

Why not get creative... simply make from a scarf with colours you like to match/ or not,& sew a ruffled affect(hand sew using a larger needle & tough thread so its easy to do the in & out simple stictch method so to pull in sections, then knot & keep continuing in inch sections. Staple gun, with a cheap small one that will take nails, & just under the ledge staple up your little wonderful curtian. Tooooo easy, totally unique,& can be made in any direction as in High Class Look, or completely a different style... all it takes is imagination.. Enjoy whatever you do:)))

Measure the exact dimensions you need. Go to a Goodwill or a thrift store. Don’t look for a drawer, just look for a plaque or sign the right dimensions. If you can cut a sign smaller, that opens up your options. You could stain or paint the new drawer front to match the old, paint all the fronts the same or contrasting colors, or you could paint the whole bureau a new color. Use a product called chalk paint so you can be done in one or two coats. You ought to be able to donate or sell it then.

If you just want to get rid of it - In my neighborhood if you place an item on the sidewalk on the weekend, some one will scarf it up. With a sign on it FREE. Young persons may have the energy to do something with this. I would NOT put money and effort to fix something up , when your intent is to get rid of it.
