Can this chair be saved?

Julie

I found this little wooden chair in the rain on the side of the road. It is laminated wood and because of the rain it started to separate. And because the wood is separating it has become less sturdy. Is there anything I can do to save it?

I would let the chair completely dry out first. Then you can try a wood glue where the wood is lifting.

Yes, wood glue and clamp = good as new!

I would definitely try to save it, it has such a good shape. The advise by Janet Pizaro and KatAych is spot-on.

I agree with using wood glue. However, it looks like it's missing the cross bar in the back, but it's hard to tell for sure from the photo. But if that's the case then adding a new bar would give more stability.

All of the previous answers are dead on money. Let the chair dry out completly then try the wood glue on the part that has come lose. The bottom run on the back legs will add additional stability. It is a great chair with good lines.

Agree with the others, but maybe use Gorilla Glue.

I love the lines of the chair so I would do all in my power to save it. just keep in house from now on.

Yes! Just re-glue (Gorilla Glue) the raised laminate, clamp until dry, clean and lightly sand all surfaces before painting the whole chair a fabulous color! I'd even go so far as to stencil on the seat and back to add BLING! Whatever you do just have fun with it! It was FREE! :)

Another idea you may want to consider. How about upholstering the back and seat...hmmmmm

I liked all the ideas including Karen's that was going to be my suggestion, just as an option. I collect little chairs and would do everything in my power to save one. Of course mine are child rockers I began collecting because I missed my grand children so they each have one.

Thanks for all your suggestions!I am thinking I'm going to try the wood glue and clamps. I love the lines on it also, thats why when I saw it in the rain I turned the car around and grabbed it. Fingers crossed!

Cute chair......why not paint the bottom in a high gloss black, the back and seat high gloss white. The little rung on the front is it a wooden dowl or metal, if it is metal you could add some criss cross brackets in the same material on the back to make it look a little more modern and industrial.

Fill a syringe with glue to get between the laminate
