How do I get scratches and dents out of a solid mahogany table?

I have a solid mahogany table that has been ravaged by 2 dogs. It has deep scratches and gouges. I want to maintain the stained finish, not paint. How do I do this? Thank you.

  • You will need to sand it, Voni. If there are deep gouges, here's a trick my Dad taught me. Save all the sawdust from sanding. Mix it with wood glue and fill-in the gouges. It may take a few applications, but it will disguise the gouges. After that, stain and seal your table. You can use a polystain for less steps.

Thank you so much. That's something I can do. 😁

  • A trick I learnt is that on a scratch is take a damp paper towel and put a clean towel over the top, then put an iron on the cotton setting on top. The moisture from the paper towel will expand the wood and pull the scratch out. Hope this helps
