Covering a shade is easy if the old shade can be used under the new skin, just tuck and glue. If the old shade is badly damaged, measure the top round, the bottom round and the length. To the length measurement add 1 inch. Make a symmetrical pattern on paper. Use this pattern to cut 2 fabric pieces. Sew right sides together 1/4 inch seams , leaving a short space open. Turn fabric inside out. Sew around on the outside 1/4 inch from edge. Whip-stitch to hoops of old lamp shade. Where the edges meet, either whip-stitch together with ribbon or yarn or make small hidden stitches with thread.
If it is just a plain lampshade you can always re-do it by decoupaging over it with either your favorite light fabric pieces, newspaper clippings, paper calendar pics and so on. Just get a bottle of decoupage glue and a foam brush, starting at where it's torn lay some glue on place your fabric or paper down put some glue on top and keep going, slightly overlapping. When all done, let it dry overnight give it another coat, use a decoupage sealer and you have your own creative piece. You can even use photo's you've copied on paper, just make sure the ink is really dry so that it doesn't smear. Sometimes I pretest to make sure they won't, you can seal them if they do with a little hairspray or clearcoat. Good luck..
You are very welcome. You can even do silhouettes, of deer or animals, trees, birds, this looks very nice for a rustic look, or even brown paper bags cut in various shapes, scrunched up for a little wrinkle gives a leather appearance when finished. Let me know what you do and how it looks..
