How can I protect an old indoor wood table as use it outdoors?
I have an old wood, chrome, glass top kitchen set from 1980 with rattan back padded seat chairs. I would like to use it outside on my open patio. I would have the seat reupholstered in an outdoor fabric. The rattan was replaced years ago and is in great condition.
I am worried about the wood and the chrome. I am not areal DIYer so it needs to be easy fix that I can handle. My thought was to paint it with an outdoor deck protecting paint of some kind. We live in the desert so major moisture is not a huge concern.
Thank you for any suggestions you may have

Stain would be much easier and preserve the wood as well.
Don't use deck sealer! Shellac works better and lasts longer. The wood will dry out and get brittle without it. The crome could have a light shellac as well, but can do with out.
Moisture is not your problem, Rua, but heat is. For the set, buy 2-3 spray cans of Rustoleum 2X paint or stain (sealer built in), in light oak, another color close to the rattan color, or in your favorite color. Buy one roll of masking or painter’s tape to tape over all the chrome on the set, or paint it the same color as the rattan. Paint away. Give the rattan a few hours to bond to the rattan (and chrome?), then paint the underside. Remove the tape after you flip the articles right side up and spray a squirt over touchup areas. (I’m typing in a pretend British accent now, as it sounds more knowledgeable and precise, although my answer may not be.) Paint the chrome with chrome paint (model car dept. or auto repair dept. in a Walmart, if you haven’t already found it in the craft paint dept. if you want to change the chrome color to your second-favorite color, if you wish.) You did not mention a glass top, but now is the time to make that sparkly with Windex or ammonia water, and replace. You could go so much further with this, but this is the easiest way. Back to American.
