How do I remove a small burn on a countertop?

my husband placed a boiling hot pan on the countertop of our kitchen without a pot holder, and burned the countertop. any suggestions out there? I have tried comet, mr. clean, countertop cleaner nothing has made a bit of good.

What material is the countertop made from? Has the burning process removed the surface layer of the countertop, or just singed it? What colour is the burn mark?
Please post a picture so we can see how extensive the problem is.
What kind of countertop?
Usually a burn is thru the finish, could call your insurance agent and try for a new one. Sorry, don't kill him.
If it is laminate, you are going to live with it...find a nice trivet to place there. If it is Corian you can sand it or have the Corian people come fix it.
It depends on the kind of material. Some stones can be buffed or sanded and polished. Laminate would most likely need to be replaced.
