Bought a metal tub to use for drinks at parties, but it leaks. Any ideas on how to waterproof it?
Use a spar varnish on the cabinets. It is what is used on wooden boats.
Take one of the doors to the paint department of your home improvement store and ask for their advice. They may have products and ideas you never considered.
The best you can do IS use spar varnish like 2dogal suggests. Won't be 100% waterproof. I use Helmsman Spar Urethane also used on boats.
That would be difficult if they aren't totally built for exterior but are in the elements. Even if you put on a coat of marine grade paint/varnish on the surface, you still could have water wicking up from the bottom, as well as have the glue and staples degrading from moisture.
