If you know the manufacturer and model number, check with the manufacturer or a retailer who specializes in fireplaces. My guess is - yes, you'd be able to have a new one installed as long as the gas connection is still good. There also might be permit and inspection required because of the gas connection - if you switch out you might need to update to current code complaince, I would check with whatever department in your jurisdiction does building code inspections.
