This is a dangerous situation for you. Cabinets in this condition can fall without warning. Empty the cabinet and see if the screws that hold it to the wall are coming out or if the cabinet itself is falling apart. If it is just screws then add longer screws to tighten it back on the wall. If the cabinet is falling apart, you may be able to take it down, make repairs and rehang the cabinet. I hope this helps but just remember some things require a professional.

I agree with Rickwen48 that this is a dangerous situation, as you never know when the entire cabinet might give way and come crashing down, injuring someone. Can you get someone to help you remove the contents and then take a closer look at what is happening between the back of the cabinet and the wall?

It could be that the cabinets are presently holding too much weight for the present hardware (screws or nails) to support, or that over time, the hardware has just loosened to a point that it is now unstable. The cabinets could be partially mounted to the walls space where there are no 2x4's or mounted without any sufficient toggle bolts.

How tight are the doors? If they are loose on the hinges, or they are no longer fitting correctly, just normal use of yanking them open over time could be enough force to be pulling the whole cabinet forward.

Lynn, Where are you? What area? Some places have organizations that will help you if you are in need of it. That sounds very dangerous. Maybe someone from your area will see your request and help you.

This is a job for someone who knows how to use a drill Your cabinets need to be anchored to the wall, preferibly on the studs. Studs are the wood, that hangs vertically behind the sheetrock. You have to screw the cabinets into these, or use Molli bolts. See if you know someone who is knowledgeable about this type of job. I recommend you call a carpenter to do the work so it's done right. If your cabinets are empty, that would help with further strain on the studs and walls. If your cabinets aren't hung right, they might pull the sheetrock out.

Lana, has the right information, call your local senior services, they have people that volunteer to do work for those who can't, and for those who can't afforded it. You might not qualifie because your not a senior yet. Senior Services I'm sure they'll help you.
