Repair table top?
I recently ordered and received a new dining table… when I received and after we put it together and turned it over, we realized it had been damaged in shipping.
How do I repair the gouge in the table top.

Or a good ole filler stick.
But for a quick temporary fix throw a table runner or table cloth over this boo boo.
If it hasn't been too long I would get in touch with who I purchased it from and get their recommendation to resolve the problem. It's possible you may get a replacement and the shipper held responsible. A repair is possible but may not look too good with the color and texture. I would not use wood filler as it can pop out. I would dig out any loose material and sand the surface smooth around the damage. Use auto body filler to fill the dent slightly raised. Once it's dry you can sand it smooth. Try some craft paints close to the color or mix a few to get a close match.
If you can't get the shipping co to replace it, then you are stuck with a repair. Using wood putty, stained to match, will let you possibly fix it so that it isn't noticeable. From the photo, it seems there is a plastic veneer coating so it's going to be difficult to repair without being able to see it. Sanding it down may not be possible if it is plastic. But that may be just a photo glitch. If it is plastic, you could possible place a warm iron over it (make sure you put down a cloth) to make it pliable. Even a hair dryer might work.
If I've missed it on the finish, then William has some good ideas.
I think you are going to have to strategically place centerpiece or placemats or charger to draw attention away from it.
I would contact the company and let them know it was received with damage.
send photos and note to the place you purchased the table and let them fix or replace it
I would definitely contact the company and tell them of the damage. As Cheryl said sent pictures. Ask for a replacement top.
You might be able to fill the spot with wood filler and sand it flat. It might be possible to match the table color with a wood stain pen.
You did not receive what you paid for! They need to replace it. let them know of the damage and support it with your pictures. Be pleasant,
Wood filler to replace missing piece ,sanding , painting hopefully with the same color match
I’d contact the place you ordered from and say it was damaged in shipping, so long as not too much time has passed. Otherwise you’re looking at sanding and filling the gouge, or redoing the top.
