We recently moved and the edge of our kitchen table got a 4” section knocked out in the process. Unfortunately the piece was lost so there is no glueing it back in place. I may end up painting the table if needed .Any suggestions for this repair?

there is wood filler in the big box stores that we’ve used. Once sanded it looks pretty good

You can use stainable wood filler and mold it to how it is supposed to look. Wait for it to dry and sand it down. Then you can stain it or paint it. Whatever finish you have for the table. It can be fixed.

I would sand it all down and make it a rustic farmhouse table and embrace the damage.

You can buy the strips to replace table and cabinet edging, at the home improvement stores. Or you can repair the table edge with wood putty. Apply, dry, sand, paint. Turn this side of the table to the open side because you will want to show everyone what you have done! ☺️

Thank you! This gash is over 1” deep in the middle. Do you think wood putty would hold up for somethi gotta that deep?

Drill a few shallow holes in the break carfully making sure to don't go all the way through. Force wood putty in the break just slightly above table surfaces. Once hardened sand to form the lip. The drilled holes give extra grip for the wood putty. If you plan to paint the table you can use Bondo (auto body filler) using the same process. Stronger than wood putty.
