I’m not sure what you’re trying to accomplish are you trying to protect your table from children crafting or for mealtime an elegant dinner?
Would a plastic vinyl tablecloth be an option?
Or you can buy the thick clear vinyl on the roll —by the yard (some Walmarts and fabric stores )and put a cloth tablecloth over that.

Have a piece of thick glass cut to fit. That way, you can always remove it and you're not permanently changing the table top.
