What is the best way to secure the 2 pieces of furniture together?

These are the bottom & the shelved top to a kitchen hutch.

    You will need screws or nails. Most things that have to be put together come with instructions and all parts. Are there any pre-drilled holes? That would give a clue to, do sides go between top & bottom or outside of top and bottom. Line up everything on the floor to see what works best before you start. If there are no holes you will need nails or screws about 2 inches long. If you opt for screws it's easier to drill holes slightly smaller than screws.

    Check out options at your local hardware store there are several types of metal braces brackets that can be used to join what together on the back side

    Drill holes in both the top and bottom pieces and use dowels to attach them. Many hutches are made to come apart for easy moving.
