Where to find pieces to replace broken chair spindles?

Our chairs are older and many of the wooden spindles are broken. They are smooth and approx. 5/8-3/4 dia. and used under the chair.

sounds like you're referring the the braces between the legs under the seat rather than the spindles that extend from the seat up the back. Short of having them custom turned on a lathe, I'd take one of the broken ones to a Re-Use store like Habitat for Humanity and see if you can find a few replacements
