Rocking Chair Salvage

This is another project I wish I had taken more photos of but only one when I bought it and put it on the table, and one taken in my bedroom in 2016
Because the chair was so badly broken, I took apart the chair and used pieces from 2 other old chairs to rebuild it.

One was a very beautiful press back chair that had been mostly demolished except for the press back .. so technically this is 3 chairs made into 1.

I filled the extra spindle holes in the seat with wood plugs and topped them with wood filler.

I hand tooled a leather seat, as I could not find one, this was a skill a good friend of mine taught me many years ago. My tooling is not perfect.

I used a swivel knife a bevel tool, a seeder and a background tool.

I drilled holes in the leather and used brass tacks to nail it to the seat.

Because I could not get a perfect finish..
I decided to not even try, I oil rubbed part of it and then stained it so the stain would not penetrate the wood in some places.

The left it left is so it looked worn. It has been waxed.

It is beside my bed and I absolutely love this chair.
