I have a gazebo the posts are cedar. MY CAT thought it was her new home & scratching posts..so she decided to scratch all 4 posts. What do u recommend I could cover the posts ..thinking half way up with that would look great & she would not scratch?

Could you wrap with vinyl or tin or even try some type of roping? Hope you get some ideas that will help...mine may be off the wall!

Once they get it in their head it’s hard to stop. I was thinking rope around the spots to protect the wood. She will scratch them too but that’s cheaper and easier to replace. I’ve heard mint cats don’t like but it didn’t work for me.

    Hi there,

I'm Linda and I agree with the rope as the best way to protect the wood from your cat scratching it. S/He will still scratch but the rope can take it. Look for a sisal rope which would be more durable than a cotton rope. Here's an article about natural smells that cats don't like. If you can plant around the gazebo poles, these might help. Wishing you the best.

I would buy hemp rope and use glue at the bottom and top. Wrap the post up about 3 feet on each post.

metal siding(corrugated or not) It'll last forever & protect poles, to do the 4 poles should not be very much $. Home Depot or Lowes can cut it for you & you can do install, trim too.Give her something else to scratch since it is natural behaviour for them, get 4x4 peice of wood(not treated) same height as the poles she's been using or smooth log and prop it up somewhere for her to use. The height is important because they like to reach/stretch out while doing it. If you don't want her in area at all get a motion sensor sprinkler and put it by structure so when she goes over there she'll get sprayed.
