first, some type of fencing or border that will keep people and pets away from that area. is the place eroding? is your house in danger of sliding down the hillside? call your insurance agent. this might be a "natural disaster" thing a few years back a group of houses got hit by by rain and slid into the ocian.
A lot of different circumstances can be in motion with Mother Nature. regarding that, I would probably make a brick edging/fence/border, depending on the height or depth of the wash out, i would go a couple feet high and bring in some real good dirt/soil and make a pretty flower or garden bed.. it would keep people and pets from going down the wash and give you a pretty landscaping. If you plan it out good enough, you could even make a flat are in front of it and make seating and a fire pit.... I could go on and on!!
If you own the land, put out a sign: Clean fill dirt wanted.
