We asphlated our driveway 5 -6 years ago, we had it widened so that we can park two cars. The entire driveway is in a good condition except for the edges, what does one do to ensure that the edges don't crumble.

    Hi Rkkirkire,

It is my opinion that the company that did your original driveway should have made sure the edges were good so my first instinct would be to call them. If that doesn't help, click below to read about what to do to fix it yourself. Wishing you the best.

I have the same problem. I believe that the cause is that the edges are higher then the ground level. I am going to place more loam on all the edges of my 300 foot driveway.

If you live in an area where the winters are cold and freezing you can get cracks in your asphalt from the weather and plowing that lead to water damage along the edges. I don't think there's much you can do. It does help to add dirt and grass to the edges.

The edges have a habit of crumbling off on asphalt driveways. What I did was use plastic landscape edging along the edges. Fill in with bagged asphalt, tamped it down .and no more crumbling.
