House in Mesquite,TX. Hairline (& larger) cracks in driveway & patio . Would it help to use some kind of sealant. I'm thinking especially to prevent freezing water making problem worse.

Thank you,

Dennis in Mesquite

Check out this product called Sika. I just saw this video this week and am thinking of using it to seal joints in my concrete.

You can buy concrete repair in a caulking tube at your local home improvement store like Menards and Home Depot. It would certainly help to use some sealant in those cracks to keep the water out. I have used this and it works great and is easy to apply. (And thanks for putting a smile on my face...you are worried about freezing water making the problem worse...in Texas...I live in northern Minnesota!!)

Hi, Dennis! I’m in Mesquite, Tx, too. We ALL will have cracks in the driveway, walkway, sidewalk, and in our foundations at one time or another. Shifting sands and all that. When a crack gets too wide for our comfort, we use QuikCrete or Sackrete in them. We don’t seal the tiny cracks (unless we were selling our house), because they will either recrack or crack in another place. Do not fill the crack left between the driveway and the garage, or between the sidewalk and the walkway, for instance. Those are left to allow expansion and retraction caused by our 0* and 100* days. It’s an ongoing battle and just part of north Texas. ☺️ Creek Crossing

Hi there, You can fill wide cracks with concrete crack filler in a caulk tube. Then you can resurface the slab.

Hi there, cracks are best to be patched and sealed with a concrete patching compound. Smaller cracks, less than 1/4 inch wide, can be repaired with a concrete caulk or liquid filler. Patching compounds typically are mixed with water and applied with a trowel. For larger cracks, this video will help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zjZ47z4mFA
