Patching Wall Holes
This is hands down my favorite way to patch holes. I am sharing in case you don't already know about this awesome DIY product! :)
I needed to move the pipe curtain rod that we made because we got new, longer curtains. Once I moved it up, we had big ugly holes. No problem - it was a quick and easy fix with Dap Rapid Repair Wall Patches.
The first thing you need to do is make sure that you don't have any raised drywall. I pounded the edges of the holes down very lightly with a small hammer.
Next, I made sure the wall was clean and then applied my patches. The patches come off of the sheet like a sticker, and you need to press them down on the wall very firmly.
The patches come in 2, 4 and 6 inch sizes. I had 2 inch on hand. It may have been better to use one 6 inch patch, but I wanted to use what I already had.
Next, you paint over the patches.
Once the pain is dry, you pull on the raised tab and pull off part of the patch.
You will be left with something that looks like this:
Next, paint another coat (or two, if needed), right over the top of the patch.
After two coats of paint, here is what my wall looks like. If you look really, really close you can see it. But you have to look SO close! And it is hard to patch with spackling and make it look this good!

Like I said, we made the curtain rod. We used a piece of pipe that we found on our property, plus some fittings from the hardware store. It is so much stronger and was much less expensive than buying one! We recently trimmed out the window using wood from our milled trees that burned when we lost our home to wildfire (I whitewashed it), and added the old architectural tin between the upper and lower windows just for interest. I am really happy with how everything came out!
