You can winterize your home, as many "snowbirds" do. There are methods on google.
having lived in a hi crime area, have a trusted neighbor go to your house...change the position of the drapes turn on certain lights, turn off others. also have them check on the pipes. keep the driveway clear of any snow. have a plan made if anyone wants to break in. take photos of each wall in your house and furniture too.
no tire tracks in the snowy drive=no one home, lets go vandalize the house.
