All you can do is paint it. There are kits for that at Home Depot.. the kits have step by step instructions. Prep is very important. Just realize it is only temporary. Nothing truly sticks to enamel cast iron. If careful with it should last a few years.
The rust can be removed if the porcelainized finish itself is still in good shape.
Is the rust from the faucet or a chip in the tub finish or a rusted drain escutcheon?
Based in the source of the rust, we can advise you further.
You could try a paste of borax and lemon juice.
I use fine sand paper wet it scrub brand new claw tub.
Barkeeper’s friend or baking soda with hydrogen peroxide. Scrub with magic eraser.
There’s many rust-removing products that work.
If the above-notes ones don’t work, I’ve used Calcium Lyme Rust remover, successfully.
Muriatic acid solution is heavy duty and I would not use that until summer, due to the fumes.
