  • Call them and ask them! Best bet is to visit the permit department at City Hall. They can provide you with valuable information and building codes (and digging) guides. In addition you can call "811" for preliminary information.

the county where you live, Gina, would have that information - they have all the info for sewer lines, septic tanks, etc. in some areas or states you can even find it online. I would look up the county govt in your area and go from there. Good luck

Ask your Public Works Dept. or City Engineer's office. That information should be in your town's construction permit files.

This is going to vary based on:

    The age of the construction

The jurisdictional agencies (City or County)

And location by weather (AZ does not have frost problems unless you’re in Flagstaff)

811 won’t tell you how deep it is, they’ll show you where they think it is, up to a point. If it’s clay tile or Orangeburg, it’s not going to have any metallic signatures for 811.

A plumber can scope it for about $200 and of course they would be hired only if they can calculate slope/drop.

For that money, apply it to excavatingthe pipe in the problem area.

In SoCal its 4’ deep in 50-60’s houses. 5’ deep in 40-50’s houses.

You could get a long tape measure add a weight and drop it in and see how far it will go

Hey Gina! Call 811 and they will have someone call you who knows! They will also be able to come out and locate the line for you so that you don't hit it when digging, it can be very costly if you hit their line! Hope this helps!
