How to clear a stopped up kitchen sink

The water is not draining, the garbage disposer is working fine.

1. baking soda and vinegar/or drano. 2. plunger (my personal preference). 3. take open the trap under sink.( last resort, but will solve your problem).

clean the funnels below the sink and down take pipe. but first use a hand pump on the upperside of the sink. i did yesterday.

Squirter some Dawn dish soap (original blue), in your drains 1-2 times a month. Let sit about 10 minutes, flush with hot water. Your drains won't stop up in the first place. I've been doing this for years now. Not one stopped up drain!

Put baking Sosa into the drain use a lot then pour in vinegar and let it sit a few minutes .then run hot water

Pour in half of the box of baking soda and then follow it with vinegar. When it stops fizzing, repeat. Rinse with hot running water.

There is a plastic snake drain cleaner called "Zip-It" that really works! Cost is less than $3.00 and is available at Walmart, Lowe's, etc. The only limitation might be getting past the garbage disposer, but it is thin, so it might be able to. Tried it on my stopped-up bathroom sink, and within 10 minutes, the water was draining right down. You Tube has a few videos demonstrating it, which will give you a very good idea how it works.

I use baking soda and vinegar. Just put baking soda in the drain and then pour in the vinegar. If you do this once a month, you won't have as much trouble. A plumber taught me this trick

Be sure you put a tight cover over the sink side with the disposal, and have a helper hold it down , then plunge the heck out of the stopped up side.

Take the U pipe off and clean it out. Be sure to have a bucket or pan under it as this can be a wet and smelly job.

Baking soda and vinegar and let it sit a couple of hours. Repeat if blockage is really bad.

Go with Wanda (from Canada's suggestion) you can google that solution. Otherwise use the good old fashioned plunger. Each day I use the remaining boiling water in the electric jug and pour it down the sink and I have never had a sink blockage. We also have a product in New Zealand called Draino but that is highly toxic and I would try the old tried and true methods first - I have only recently learnt of the Baking Soda option so I would try that first (assuming you have already used a plunger).

What has worked for me many times is boiling a large amount of boiling water and pouring it down the drain-sometimes several times.It seems to clear the gunk built up/grease.The vinegar baking soda mix seldom works.Sometimes it is air bubble and plunging along with the hot water works.

Years ago a plumber told me to periodically fill the sink all the way with very hot water and then use tongs to remove the stopper for a quick flush.

I agree with baking soda, vinegar & boiling water. Perhaps you might consider doing this once a month. What did the plumber diagnose and how did he fix you stoppage?
