If this is a new problem, I would start by plunging and then snaking the toilet to see if anything is stuck and slowing down the works.
You have a clog try plunging the toilet realy fast until you see no more bubble comeing from the toilet
Also if there are a lot of roots in the old sewer pipes it can make it drain slowly. When my really old house has this problem, I put a bottle of Roebic Root Killer down the toliet. And also another day some Roebic Drain Cleaner, couple of caps in warm water before bed.
Green gobbler makes a great product. Not a home remedy but it worked for me as well as helps septic system.
