Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Apr 01, 2014They make fittings called Shark Bites. These fittings can be used to fix pipes without all the fuss of soldering and the requirements of getting every last drop of water out of the pipe to do so. Simply cut the pipe and remove about two to three inches of it. Following the directions on the Shark Bite bag. Then simply slip it onto the pipe on one end, and push back to the other pipe centering it between the cut out section. Your done. Putty is fine for a pipe that does not hold pressure and even then its only good for a short fix. You should also assess the current condition of the pipe as when copper begins to have pin hole leaks, there is going to be another surprise right around the corner and its not going to be one you want. I would agree with LaTisha on this that ideally a pro is really the best when it comes to aging pipes. Leaks have a tendency to spread if your not up on doing these repairs.Helpful Reply

LaTisha on Apr 02, 2014Are you on well water? City/county? Age of home? Answers to these can also come into play on your repair. And yes on the sharkbite fittings. We use them all the time for repairs. Just make sure if making repair with pex that you use the sleeves included. If not pex then sleeves are not needed. Also you want to feel two clicks or bumps to make sure pipe is slid by "0" ring (only way I know how to describe it). Good luck!Helpful Reply
